Back to school this morning. Coco wanted us both to take her there, so we did. I forgot Rye Lane was gonna be closed all year from January — not very convenient for transport but good for documentary photography. On the way back, Joseph stopped in Peckham to find out about the owner of an empty building he’s been having his eyes on for a while. That means I got to be on my own at home for a little bit. Only 30 minutes in the end. I guess it’s better than nothing. I didn’t do much apart from having a joint followed by 5 minutes of gym and a shower.

Today I would like to finish the page for the School Uniforms project so I can start sharing it with friends, family and followers. I’d also like to find an assistant ASAP so I can get things done quicker, and a videographer to work with on the production. As much as I’d like to do it all on my own, it’s clearly impossible considering the size of the project. I must surround myself with the right people, ones that I can trust and who are super reliable. Gonna write a job listing sometime this week as I’d love to confirm someone by the end of the month LATEST.

Ideally I’d like to go to the first destination for a week in February. However it’s not that far away and I’m running low on cash right now. I haven’t worked in months —apart from a couple of fashion shows and editorials in October— and didn’t take the time to sell prints or postcards in ages. In other words, I’m nearly broke. So I'm gonna have to setup an online shop again and use the profits to book my flights. I need to think of other ways to finance the production of this project because evidently it’s impossible to self-fund everything. Film rolls alone are expensive, and I’m not even talking about processing costs. Sometimes I’m worried that I will not be able to pull it off because of a lack of financial means. This project requires a lot of funds, and unless I’m doing 18k jobs more often, I’ll have to outsource them. That’s why I must come up with different options of fundraising — or else, this project will fail.

The problem is that I’ve been shit at social media last year and people have lost their interest in my work because of it. Stats have been disastrous lately and it’s gonna take some time to build back up. And I don’t even intend to create shitty work just for the sake of posting again and show that I’m there and improve my engagement. Like I said before, I am not going to waste my time on these things anymore. This project is all I want to do this year and nothing will get on the way. The best scenario would be to fund the first destination on my own so that I can create the first works of School Uniforms and use them to promote the project for fundraising purposes. People say money doesn’t make you happy. But to be honest, I’d be able to fulfil this whole project on my own if I had all the money in the world. And that’s what would make me truly happy. I don’t want money to splash out on stupid things. I don’t want more money than I need. I just want to bring my ideas to life and make sure Coco has a great childhood. That’s all I really want.

11:40pm — just finished watching Carbon. Actually a good French thriller. I’m now in bed, ready to sleep. I’ve been doing some research earlier today about fundraising options, and I now have a better idea about how I could potentially fund the project. I think I’m gonna create a sort of membership where people will have to pay in order to get access to the updates and behind-the-scenes of the making-of School Uniforms. I’d offer different levels of memberships to accommodate every budget — the more you pay, the more you get in return. Perhaps I will decide to keep the works of the project confidential and make them available to the members only until official public release in 2022. Although it’s a good idea, it’s also a risk. This project is kind-of all I’ll be working on from now on, and if I don’t share the works with everyone as they are created, then I will definitely be forgotten and no-one will care about my new body of work by the time it’s released. On the other hand, traveling for the School Uniforms project means that I’ll also be able to work on other ongoing series. And perhaps I’d even be able to do an #ophelieandthegirls photoshoot everywhere I go, casting local girls and shooting in amazing locations — the quality of the works would drastically improve with that. In short, I’ll be able to create SO MUCH WORK during the production of School Uniforms and therefore will still be able to keep an online presence by posting every other new series. Meaning that I could indeed keep the main project exclusive to the members until 2022. Something to think about properly as once I’ve made a decision and announced it publicly, there is no turning around. Gonna fall asleep on these thoughts.
